As many of you know on Friday, February 19th, the California Department of Public Health announced new loosened guidelines in regards to youth sports. Baseball will be able to play competitively (in compliance with safety guidance) once Ventura County averages 14 cases per 100,000 people over a 7 day period. Our magic number is 14! While we are not there just yet, we are trending in that direction very quickly. Exciting and hopeful news for Westlake Baseball, our kids and our community!
As stated in previous communication, WBA has been working diligently to prepare for this moment and we are ready to move forward with the next steps in the process of evaluating new or advanced players, drafting teams, beginning practices and building game schedules! It is important to remember that we will be operating the organization under unique circumstances and our season may look a little different than in years past but we are committed to uphold the same integrity, unity and fun that comes with playing Westlake Baseball!

OPTIONAL EVALUATIONS - This year in an effort to maintain distance and limit crowding:
EVALUATIONS are optional except for NEW PLAYERS to Westlake Baseball or players wishing to be considered for our more advanced American league (all divisions). Players 5 and under are also optional even if new to the league. We will be using numbers from last year’s evaluations and intel from coaches for returning players to build balanced teams.

If we do not meet the case rate of 14 or under by this date, then we will start the first Saturday following the go ahead data. Unfortunately, WBA will not be able to host our traditional opening ceremonies and parade due to the current environment. However, hopefully some teams will begin to play games on this date and the weeks thereafter.

We're all in this together
It has been a challenging year but there is hope emerging. We are ecstatic to take steps back into this community culture of WBA that provides so much fun and enjoyment for all. Please be patient as we monitor the daily health guidance and continue to navigate this fluid situation. We are confident that the timeline above is not just optimistic but realistic at this point.
